You know the one. A flat flame on a loop, a fan you hear over the movie, a black box that looks stuck to the wall.
Most people who want a fireplace have seen it, and it's the reason they never buy one. A real fireplace needs a chimney, a gas line or a contractor, and most apartments, condos and newer houses don't have any of the three. So the wall above the couch stays blank, or gets a TV and nothing else.
We started with one question: what would it take for an electric fireplace to stop looking like one?
Three things give a fake fireplace away.
We fixed each one.

01 · The giveaway
The flat flame
Light runs up through a 3D log bed and an ember layer, so the fire has depth from across the room, not just head-on. Choose from dozens of flame and ember color combinations and 5 brightness levels, and keep the one that looks right in your room.

02 · The giveaway
The heater you can hear
On high, the heater is a soft hum of about 40 dB. Off, it's silent. Flame and heat run separately, so the fire can stay on in July with no heat at all.

03 · The giveaway
The box on the wall
At 3.9 inches deep, the Embra Linear sits flush in the wall behind a thin black frame, so it looks like part of the house. It fits a 2×6 wall or a built-out TV wall, with room for a TV 12 inches above.
The one test
“Would someone walking into the room think it was real?”
That was the test for every decision: how deep the log bed goes, the color of the embers, how thin the trim could get, how loud the fan was allowed to be. When the answer was no, it changed. When it was yes, it stayed.
